New Article in Christianity Today and Light Magazine Interview

This week two different pieces I wrote/contributed to are out. The first is about the essential responsibility of SBC churches to be committed to sexual abuse prevention and response. The second is a roundtable discussion on how pastors can engage the politics in this election year. See below for links to both articles and a brief preview.

CHRISTIANITY TODAY ARTICLE – “The SBC’s Abuse Prevention Work Is Not Done”

Just over five years ago, a fire broke out in one of the world’s most famous houses of worship, the cathedral of Notre-Dame de Paris. In the days following, officials confirmed that one reason the fire grew out of control was that the security team, after hearing the alarm, miscommunicated and responded at the wrong location. The fire was in an attic, but the team went to the sacristy, located in an entirely different building. Portions of the cathedral soon burned to the ground.

It was also just over five years ago that alarms sounded in the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) when reports emerged detailing hundreds of cases of sexual abuse in our churches and organizations over a span of decades…

LIGHT MAGAZINE INTERVIEW ARTICLE – PASTOR’S ROUNDTABLE: WHAT IS A PASTOR’S ROLE IN POLITICS?

Pastors should wade carefully into political matters—whether in preaching, writing, posting, or conversations. People in our churches are not only sensitive to these issues—many are afraid and are daily being fed information that only increases their anxiety. Therefore, we must not give in to the temptation to be like Chicken Little, running around and screaming, “The sky is falling!” We are called to believe, think, speak, and act as people of hope through Jesus Christ.

  1. Hey man, it might be me but I couldn’t find the links. When I click on the respective articles, they appear to be just a screenshot of the articles’ front pages.

It could be my user error, but I couldn’t find a way to get to the actual articles.

I’ll try to hunt them down by going directly to the sites, but thought you might want to be aware.
